But then again, not every story can end the way you would like and I will confess that considering the nature of the book it makes more sense for her to need to draw energy from others than an alternate source. Personally, I didn't care for the ending with her having to kill to survive, although it was realistic I wish that Vanessa would have been able to find another way. But as to his decision, well you'll have to read the book. She eventually confesses her struggles to him and shares her deepest secret knowing he could leave her forever.she is a siren. Vanessa can't stand being apart from Simon any longer. She sets out on another search for who is causing these murders and if it is Zara, they must be ready for anything. Deaths begin to occur in their coastal town again and Vanessa finds she is being followed yet she sees no signs of Zara. Her mother tries to help teach her how she can get the energy she needs without killing.for a while, but eventually she will have to. Vanessa can no longer sustain herself on salt alone, she needs to harm others in order to survive, a side of being a siren she loathes.
